About Square Lake

Introduction to Square Lake

Square Lake is a unique 200-acre natural resource located in May Township, Minnesota, near the St. Croix River, a jewel to be treasured and protected.

The Square Lake Association (SLA) is a four-decade, non-profit, home-owners organization, committed to natural resource preservation, conservation, stewardship, and community collaboration.

Ongoing studies of other Minnesota lakes infested with Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) - including Eurasian Milfoil, Zebra Mussels, Starry Stonewort, and Spiny Waterfleas - dramatically show that AIS poses an existential threat to Square Lake, proving that reactive remedies are far more complex and costly than proactive, preventive actions – if even possible. Square Lake is one of two lakes in the region to not be infested with AIS.

As homeowners, our property valuations will rise or fall depending on the level of individual and collective stewardship actions and commitment.

As a progressive Association, our collective mission is to proactively protect and preserve Square Lake’s natural beauty, clarity and balance for future generations.
